  • Frank Murkowski- A Tribute

A film by Alaska Robotics, a Jueanu crew with a great sense of humor. Thanks for the catchy tune!

May not be work safe, due to a couple instances of "language". Unless, of course, everyone in your office has a [...]

    If you love Mat-Su sprawl...

    Vote for Sarah Palin!

I attended the gubernatorial natural resources debate at UAF last April. Two of the three remaining contenders were present: Halcrow and Palin. I wasn't terribly impressed by either one; but it was early in the game, so I'll let [...]

  • Full disclosure?

I haven't read through the entire questionnaire, but it should be interesting to read what our gubernatorial candidates have to say about themselves and Alaska. So far, Sarah is making a name for herself with back-peddling, flip-flopping, and overall refusal to take a stand (or at least to say [...]

  • I can't believe he did this

    Well, yes I can.

    "
It is my pleasure as Governor of Alaska to recognize Friday, September 1, 2006, as Christopher Allridge Day in Alaska, honoring Mr. Allridge’s commitment to open government and volunteer activism.

On Tuesday, August 22, designated as the date of Alaska’s statewide primary election, Christopher [...]

  • Straight from the candidates

This might prove to be a good link for elections coverage. At least this first section is giving the candidates the opportunity to answer one interesting question: "Who are you?"

  • Murky's political future not so Murky

A very straightforward, somewhat scathing analysis of Murkowski's chances in the upcoming gubernatorial primary.

    Just a highlight below.

But the political point of no return for Murkowski may have come with his proposal in June 2004 to use $2 million in federal homeland security [...]

  • King of the bandaid fix

Thank goodness there was fuel enough to fire up Murky's personal state jet for a flight to Prudhoe.
DEADHORSE -- Gov. Frank Murkowski flew aboard his state jet to the hobbled Prudhoe Bay oil field Thursday and immediately faced down a crowd of about 30 reporters, many of them [...]

  • In this time of crisis

Some drama in a letter to State employees from Murky himself...

I have implemented a series of steps in response to the shutdown:

...The commissioner of Natural Resources will work with instate refiners and North Slope producers to meet instate needs for heating oil and jet fuel...
    [...]

  • Murky does it again

Further evidence that this State needs to undergo an attitude adjustment.

[Murkowski] said the state intends to carefully scrutinize BP's plans to protect the environment from future damage and plans to resume operations. He said he was ensuring all Alaskans that the state will hold BP responsible.[...]

  • He seems too squeaky clean

Binkley is such a smiley, friendly kind of guy that many Alaskan's can't help but like him. Personally I think his shiny persona is a little worrisome.

From an ADN article on the Republican gubernatorial candidate roundtable debate:

Another ethics discussion led to Murkowski's comments about [...]

  • Why I wish Berkowitz was still running

From an AP story printed in yesterday's News-Miner:

Gov. Frank Murkowski on Friday threatened to veto any tax passed by the Legislature that is based on the gross value of oil and gas produced in Alaska instead of his plan to tax oil companies' profits...

    ...Berkowitz dismissed [...]

  • The opposite of Crying Wolf

A coworker was reading the news during our lunch break, when he came across this article.

Nome residents expressed their concerns Thursday about a proposed hard rock mine when Gov. Frank Murkowski appeared at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the road leading to it.

    The $7.3 million Glacier [...]

  • There's something to be said for transparency

The local paper, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, doesn't even pretend to aspire to unbiased reporting. There's something...refreshing... about knowing you can't trust your news source.

... and you're going to be sorry. I mean it. I'm not playing anymore unless you play my way.

And you can't dock your ferry here anymore, either, Washington State. Not unless you vote yes on ANWR. Because I know that's going to really hurt your summer [...]
