A Lesson in Donor Relations.
I have long been a public radio fan and supporter. And Saturday morning? Fahgetaboutit! Don't bother me between 8AM and Noon. I am glued to the dial. I follow Scott Simon, Peter Sagal, and WaitWait on Twitter. I'm an addict.
So, the moment I [...]

Of those I’ve spoken with concerning today’s meeting of the Republican caucus, two used the same phrase to describe the state of affairs: “badly fractured.” Efforts by some, including John Lunsford (pictured, left), to petition for a new election for all leadership positions that the caucus [...]
The folks over at Campaign for Liberty show us the explosion in government spending in the last two years, from spending just over 30% of gross domestic product (GDP) at all level of government combined to 40%.
With that, 19% of federal government employees make $100,000 a [...]
From the AJC’s Aaron Gould Sheinin:
Update 1:23 p.m.: The House caucus confab has broken up and members made for the door fairly quickly. The headlines: The caucus will meet next Thursday to vote for their choice of speaker and speaker pro tem and will elect majority whip.
The choices for [...]
It looks like the House will hold an election for Speaker on December 15th, earlier than expected. From what I've been told, John Lunsford's petition was unsuccessful, meaning that the rest of leadership, the status quo, will stay in place.
The candidates for Speaker will be (subject to change):
[...]
Update @12:50: Err, make that Thursday. I think the change was to drive Icky over the edge.
From our unwilling PP Corespondent Jim Galloway:
Gov. Sonny Perdue, whose last session of the Legislature could be derailed by an out-of-control fight to replace Speaker Glenn Richardson, made a surprise visit to [...]
Congrats to Georgia punter Drew Butler on winning the Ray Guy Award, as well as being named a first-team All-American.
[...]The editorial board over at the Washington Post is concerned about the latest ObamaCare compromise (emphasis mine):
The only thing more unsettling than watching legislative sausage being made is watching it being made on the fly. The 11th-hour "compromise" on health-care reform and the public option supposedly includes [...]

RE: The Future
During this difficult time, I have urged patience and stated that what is important is that we do this right. I had hoped Mark was going to announce [...]
House GOP gathers following scandal, from Aaron Gould Sheinin for the AJC Georgia House Republicans on Friday will celebrate their version of Festivus. In the television show "Seinfeld, " the made-up holiday of Festivus was famous for its annual "airing of grievances." And nothing better describes what is likely [...]
As I write, the House GOP is going into conference. The Governor will address them. David Ralston, Bill Hembree, Larry O’Neal, Jerry Keen, and others are all fighting now for the top job.
The danger is that several of the guys negate each other and help get someone unacceptable elected Speaker.
I [...]

WSB is reporting that Falcon player Jonathan Babineaux has been arrested in Gwinnett County for possession of marijuana.

[...]Here is my newspaper column on the present messiness.
St. Augustine said, “Lord make me chaste, but not yet.” That has fast become the motto of Republican legislative leaders in Georgia.

Today is a big for the House Republican Caucus. As was reported on Peach Pundit last night and earlier this week here, a petition will be presented at the caucus meeting today at Georgia Tech that will give members the opportunity to take action and set December 21st [...]
Former state Sen. Regina' [...]
Everyone is paying attention to the problems in the House, but the Senate GOP is not off the hook.
Allegedly, the alleged eye-witness to the alleged and long rumored incident with the Lt. Governor is going to speak publicly an deny having seen what everyone says she originally said she saw. [...]
I don’t think I have to tell you that it’s been a crazy week around here. Nor will I belabor the point.
In the feeding frenzy that accompanies a power vacuum, it is easy to lose sight of the forest for the trees. Yet if you run straight into the [...]
I find it hilarious that Georgia Republicans need a piece of paper to tell them to keep their pants zippered. Zippered up cause so many of them believe that not only should they rule all the women of Georgia but that they should also be in [...]
Rep. Chuck Martin has an…inventive…new proposal for selection of the next Speaker of the Georgia House. As The Beacon newspaper terms it: “elect the next Ga. House Speaker right from the floor in a series of public and open votes and make the Speaker selection [...]

Just into the news basket is word that State Rep. John Lunsford will tomorrow, at the meeting of the majority caucus on the campus of Georgia Tech, resign his post as “Chairman of the Hawks” in the House (effective immediately) and then will offer to petition [...]
It is appearing more and more likely that the House Republican caucus will fill all four top leadership positions sometime between now and Christmas. The group will meet tomorrow morning in Atlanta on the campus of a school with the ACC’s best, but Georgia’s second best NCAA football program. We’re [...]
Democrats are planning to raise the debt ceiling by $1.8 trillion at some point this month, which is apparently double what was expected:
“We’ve incurred this debt. We have to pay our bills,” House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told Politico Wednesday. And the Maryland Democrat confirmed that the anticipated [...]
I understand Pete’s point and in large part I agree with him. The GOP should not cater to big business but we should be in favor of creating an environment where all businesses can thrive. Too often big business wants to use government to crush competition and enrich themselves. [...]
