   I hereby offer my endorsement in the upcoming primary to the first candidate for lieutenant governor who pledges to do everything in his power, if elected, to abolish this silly office or at least change the way we choose lieutenant governors in Illinois.

  According to a 16-page opinion, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Gov. Pat Quinn can close and sell the Thomson Correctional Center without legislative approval. State law allows governors to sell surplus property without involving the General Assembly in every sale.
