The publicity folks for ACORN sure have been making a mess of things.....one day saying no other office did what DC did, followed by 4 other offices shown doing the same things. Each day, while the tapes were coming out, ACORN had to change their story.
Now comes the story [...]
Interesting to know that one of the most "nanny state" governments in the world now chooses to lower their taxes to spur job growth. They learned that higher taxes meant no growth.
Guess it's our turn to learn this lesson.

Chris Wallace lets the White House have it, considering them a set of "crybabies".
Maybe they need a nursery in the west wing.

The stock market and unemployment rates aren't the only indicators of our economy. Here, outside of Singapore, is the "ghost" fleet of unused cargo ships, currently not needed for economic trade. Close to 500 of them, floating empty.
Wow!

Wow....sure looks like one or two people showing up in DC today. I was originally planning on joining these few people there in DC but was unable to make it.
Although the bulk of people are showing up in the capital today, there are still other [...]
For September 11th, 2009, Ask.com had this as their main page. Bing.com had this as their main page. Google.com, on the other hand, had business as usual for any ordinary day.
I've not exactly the biggest fan of Microsoft, but I think I'll be searching there more often.

I, like Ed Morrissey, find today a strange day as we both agree with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. As Politico notes:
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs today criticized CNN – not the Coast Guard – over the panic caused by the agency’s training exercise on the [...]Very interesting to hear that Rep. Joe Wilson's "You Lie" comment has now triggered adding "proof of citizenship" legislation into the health care bill. What happened to the "it was always there" statements?
The controversy over Republican Rep. Joe Wilson's shouting out "You Lie!" at the President over his claim that [...]I have been encouraged as I have been following the "$10 for Tark" program Hugh Hewitt has been publicizing. With this in mind, I just donated to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) as an anti-John Yarmuth donation. I have also let John Yarmuth know of my [...]
Interesting book title: National Suicide: How Washington Is Destroying the American Dream from A to Z
May have to check it out.

[...]While NBC, CBS, and ABC are televising the presidential address tonight, the Fox television network (WDRB locally) will be showing "So You Think You Can Dance". White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is whining about the Fox network's choice.
Why do I have the strange feeling that "So You [...]
Last night, for those who had clear skies, there was a great view of the International Space Station following the Space Shuttle across the sky. Sadly, where we were was rather cloudy and we were only able to see them poke through a few open patches in the sky. John [...]
Cindy Sheehan is planning on being in Louisville Tuesday thru Friday this week. I'm kinda wondering if she'll have anything close to the numbers from the Central Park Tea Party on Saturday.
Will her meetings look like these?
President Barack Obama's numbers have been heading downhill since January. Now, in September, it's heading even further down. The latest polls show his approval index at -13.
This week we'll start seeing if he's learning from these numbers heading south. One hint is that he [...]
Or so says Michael Moore's latest movie Capitalism: A Love Story. I do wish he'd get his facts straight.
"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes."You have to eliminate it and replace it with something that is good for all people and that [...]
We've all been hearing a lot lately about Charlie Rangel's tax issues. Now it looks like he might be attempting to buy some leniency with the House ethics committee.
Is Charlie Rangel worried that the House Ethics Committee — notorious for handing out little more than a slap on the wrist [...]I did make it to tonight's town hall with John Yarmuth. I ended up in a spill over room watching it on a big screen, just before the fire marshal said "no more!".
Ironically, the one thing that stood out for me from this town hall had little to do with [...]
Just a reminder.....John Yarmuth is holding his one and only town hall Wednesday Night, 6:30pm, at Louisville's Central High School, 1130 West Chestnut Street. Do bring an ID, due to them giving priority to Kentucky 3rd District voters.
Those of you in the 3rd District, take this time to let [...]
Should Senate bill 773 (Cybersecurity Act of 2009) be enacted, you and I just might be seeing more of this appearing:
Yeah, I know, a little over the top maybe. But Chris Muir's graphic does bring home the point that many enacted laws, in [...]
Maybe you've heard the story. In one of those emails passed around from friend to friend. About Mars appearing like a full moon come August 27th. Sorry to disappoint you, but it's a hoax.
For the 6th year in a row, the emails have been flying about Mars being "really [...]
According to this article, Cheney was more influential in Bush's first term than in his second term. Maybe if Bush had listened to Cheney more during his second term the Republicans would not have lost in 2006 and 2008. Instead, Bush frittered away his political capital, alienated conservatives, and, [...]
As noted by Instapundit's Greg Reynolds, "protest is patriotic, and dissent is the highest for of patriotism!" Liberals have taught us this.
With that in mind, the Operation Embarrass Your Congressman is up and running, with their battle plan here. A perfect plan for their August recess.
Some of [...]
Many say that the rich are not paying their fair share of taxes. I, and the numbers, however, say differently.
Newly released data from the IRS clearly debunks the conventional Beltway rhetoric that the "rich" are not paying their fair share of taxes.Indeed, the IRS data shows that in [...]
Back as a kid in the 60's, I was an avid follower of the space program. So today, 40 years ago, one 8 year old was glued to an old black&white console, watching as Apollo 11 lifted off to the Moon.
The pilot of Apollo 16 [...]
Stats from Larry Kudlow of CNBC and National Review Online:
Fortune magazine recently reported that the number of U.S. companies in the world’s top 500 fell to the lowest level ever, while more Chinese firms than ever before made the list. Thirty-seven Chinese companies now rank in the top 500, including nine new entries. Meanwhile, [...]SciFi channel is remarketing itself as SyFy. Give me a break! This coming from the channel that's added ECW Wrestling to it's lineup.
I agree with the article writer.....let's just call it Sigh Fi.

[...]I didn't even know it still existed, in any fashion, until today when I saw the news that AOL has shutdown the last remains of CompuServe. Yeah, I was one of those early geeks, dialing in with my 1200 baud modem into what was then "the net" (along with [...]
I spent this past week down in South Carolina. While visiting Fort Moultrie, I viewed this sight. It got me thinking along several lines.
Very recently, a local Louisville church got in a little hot water over having a Saturday "gun" service. Some were [...]
Lots of folks I speak to like to overpay their federal and state taxes through the year. That way, come April 15th, they get a tax refund from Uncle Sam and their state capitol.
Now comes a good reason NOT to pre-pay those taxes. California is now issuing IOU's to [...]
We think we'll get cheaper and better health care when the government takes over? As John Stossel notes, no way! Making it cheaper just means it'll be rationed, as the Canadians have noticed. But cheer up, at least one part of the medical world won't have to ration care.
We [...]Senator Arlen Spector's switch to the Democratic party, in order to keep his Senate seat, may end up costing him his seat anyway. As Ed Morrissey of Hotair.com notes:
Arlen Specter has had a bad year, hasn’t he? The Senate veteran got a Republican primary challenger in Pat Toomey, who immediately [...]Base on the yea and nay voting lists I have seen, it looks like our 4 Kentucky Republicans voted correctly on Cap and Trade. Our 2 Kentucky Democrats sadly voted incorrectly on the legislative cramdown. Even more reason that those of us in the Kentucky 3rd district help vote out [...]
In yesterday's Wall Street Journal, John Fund makes two points:
1) Several ideas are being floated as to how to raise the funds to pay for nationalized health care. They all deal with taxes on things like those making over $100,000 (what happened to the campaign's $250,000), or those whose [...]
I think the dear senator needs to get a clue from someone really in the military as to what "Ma'am" and "Sir" really means. Then she might not mind that term anymore.

April 25th, 1976 has an event that has been listed as one of the top 100 greatest moments in Major League Baseball's history.
On the 100th anniversary of their very first game, the Chicago Cubs were in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. Before the Dodgers went to bat in the bottom of [...]As the U.K.'s Telegraph notes, the world seems to be growing colder now, not warmer.
There was midsummer snow not just in Norway and the Cairngorms, but even in Saudi Arabia. At least in the southern hemisphere it is winter, but snowfalls in New Zealand and Australia have been abnormal. There have [...]Steven Burd, CEO of Safeway, plugs his company's plan to cut health care costs in a June 12th editorial in the Wall Street Journal. Much like safe driving discounts auto insurers give, Safeway's health insurance plan discounts those with healthier lifestyles.
Rather than legislating health restraints, like trans fat foods [...]
Since Monday's obscene joke by David Letterman, I've laid back a little, having hope that maybe the guy could be man enough to apologize. I now see my patience has not been rewarded.
Both of Dave's two jokes from Monday night's show bother me, but I seriously take offense at one [...]
"You can rip a whole chapter out of your Economics 101 textbook because the job market isn't behaving the way we were taught." So says David Rosenberg, from Gluskin Sheff and Associates.
Obama's so called "stimulus" has left us with the following statistics:
Unemployment rates for workers 45 and older have [...]at the ceremony for the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, at Colleville-sur-Mer cemetery, June 6, 2009.
Wonder what's on her mind?
Do we really want to know?
-Colonel Steve
Liberals have pushed for years for the U.S. to be more like Europe. Now that we've headed left, Europe is heading right.
Maybe we can catch up, now?

[...]"Government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem." - Ronald Reagan, 1981.
Supposedly, some government spending scheduled 3 months ago was supposed to lower mortgage rates. Instead, they've raised rates.
Mayors in Canada have passed a resolution to "Buy Canadian". This is in response to the trade protectionism clauses in the U.S.'s stimulus bill, pushing "Buy American".
Such a push by Obama for stimulus sure looks like it'll backfire. Then again, with his typical proposals, what's new?
-Colonel Steve
[...]Great idea, New York! Just what I would want to do....pay a fee for the privilege to pay taxes. Granted, it's a fee to those filing by paper rather than electronically.
The folks it hits the hardest are those not so technically savvy (like the generation before us) AND [...]
