  • Are Denfeld High School football fans getting frustrated?

A reader sent this to me in a comment on my high school football wrap up post. You can view the comment here.

He wants all frustrated Hunter football fans to go to what I am assuming is his website here.

    I haven't seen enough of [...]

  • Bergson's 2007 budget proposal - what was omitted and what difficult choices were avoided?

I have some issues with the mayor's budget proposal for 2007. I'm sure that doesn't suprise anyone reading this.

Below is the text of the address with my commentary inserted. Click here to see the text on the City of Duluth's website.

Mayor Herb Bergson’s Budget Presentation [...]

  • High school sports

Minnesota Sports Online is a great resource for high school sports.

Right now it lists the Central v. Detroit Lakes game as a "game to watch."

  • Jim Oberstar is taking the Rod Grams campaign seriously, shouldn't you?

Each time I post anyhthing related to the Grams campaign I get a number of responses that basically say some variation of, "why are you wasting your time, he can't win, he'll get crushed by Oberstar."

Apparently Jim Oberstar is taking the Grams campaign seriously.

    He's been sending [...]

  • Duluth's "protest community" up in arms!

Duluth's local crowd of anti-military crazies was busy this weekend. Duluth had the gall to host an airshow!

Luckily for Duluth, these concerned citizens didn't let such a blasphemous act go unnoticed:
Not everyone was at the air show to have a good time, however. About 20 [...]

  • The Telegram gets it right. Why doesn't the DNT have one of these editors on it's board?

The Superior Daily Telegram gets one fact wrong, but wrote a great editorial that captures the grip that the public employees' unions have on local government in Duluth.

Here's the one point they got wrong:
Bergson previously was Superior’s mayor, and his legacy here also includes the creation [...]

  • Duluth considering building subsidized housing for families who make twice the city's median income!!!

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Duluth's median household income in 1999 was $33,766, keep that in mind as you read this posting.

The Duluth News Tribune ran a Scott Thistle article today about a Duluth area non-profit, Neighborhood Housing Services, which is asking the city to [...]

  • DNT's Editorial Board Wants this Swept Under the Rug

The News Tribune Editorial Board believes Duluthians shouldn't discuss the loan to Women in Construction for the Croud home.

    No Kidding?

Of course they don't want it discussed, after all it hurts their chosen politicians!

    Here's their closing paragraph:
The beginning and end of the story [...]

  • Another Reason for Alumni NOT to Donate to UMD

Professor Abhinov K. Aima presented his or her theory that all republicans are nazis in today's Duluth News Tribune.

Read her flawed, illogical, very forgetable commentary here.

Why would anyone donate to UMD when they employ people who spew garbage like this?

    I know they won't [...]

  • Bullying the elderly and generally angering the community

Has Ryan Kern, promoter of the Duluth Air Show, managed to alienate everyone who lives near the Duluth Airport?

Remember, he's the guy who has already angered the Hermantown City Council by refusing to help them cover the approximately $4,000 they will have to spend on extra traffic enforcement [...]

  • Could this be Quid Pro Quo?

I've been informed by several sources who should know that City Council President Roger Reinert has signed on as a physician recruiter with St. Mary's Hospital.

It's interesting that this new position for Reinert comes after the City Council approved using eminent domain to take land along Superior Street [...]
