Day 9December 9, 2009
For today’s photo I have this hat I crocheted over the last two days. (Yesterday’s shot was the yarn on the winder.) I spun the yarn from a lovely braid of Blue Faced Leicester fiber fromΒ [...]

Day 4Miley inspects my new (to me) umbrella swift.
As long as I’m posting this photo, I may as well mention that Marcus has decided I’m not the devil and will consent to sit on my lap for several [...]
I’m going to attempt a 365 day photo project with some friends on Ravelry… one photo every day. I may not post every day’s photo here on the blog, but I’ll put them all in this set on Flickr.
Day 1
My beautiful boy!
Things have been really hectic here… new post coming soon. I mean, I’ll try.

We’ve got some grody little mushrooms growing out of one of our straw bales. The straw is for winter mulching in the yard.
[...]
I realize that taking this photo and posting it online is supremely geeky of me, but look at that bottle! It’s just so cute! And it was delivered to my door by a bonafide milk-man! Glass bottle, [...]
I’ve been neglecting the spinning for a while in favor of a couple of crocheted afghans. Two afghans at a time? What was I thinking?
The first pattern I started is the Hobo Blanket, using 17 different colors of Knitpicks Palette yarn. Here’s where I was with that one [...]

The other day I was at Costco and, as usual, made a run through the book section. What I saw there had me cracking up for the rest of the day:
The Democrat Herald ran a story yesterday about a local apartment complex attempting to ban any kind of flag from being displayed on vehicles parked on the property. Somehow I doubt the apartment manager is going to win this one in the long run, but anyway, it’s the [...]
It’s been slightly less than forever since I did an update on the yard and house. We’re starting to think about how to prepare for winter, and seeing what we can get out of the garden for fall and winter. We also need to make sure the chicken coop [...]
Spent a perfect Sunday afternoon out at the Finley Wildlife Refuge last weekend.
[...]
Went to the state fair this year and spent the majority of the time looking at the livestock. Goats are so cool. I want one. Someday…

Dear Fandom:
For crying out loud, people, I can’t go anywhere these days without seeing one of you cranky-pants whining about how long it’s taking Scott Lynch to write the third book in his Gentleman Bastard series, or shaking your digital fist at Patrick Rothfuss because he’s, IDK, [...]
Made it out to Timber Linn Park early Saturday morning for the hot air balloon launch.
I’m not terribly happy with most of my shots. Trying to catch the vibrancy of the balloons [...]
Moments… frozen in memory but not my camera, much to my chagrin.
Part 1
… we are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. A short woman stands underneath a painting, hands clasped behind her back, long gray hair coiled into a bun. She is perfectly centered, gazing up [...]

Bath time!
The chickens like to hang out under our porch when it’s hot & they get really into their dust baths.
We now have names for four of the hens. There’s HH (pronounced [...]

Currently spinning Dicentra Designs’ Merino/Tussah Silk in “Bouquet”:
First bobbin done, one more to go.

Some recently finished skeins… finally got a chance to take some photos this morning.
Just finished this one yesterday. BFL, chain-plied, about 248 yards:
50/50 Superwash Merino & Tencel from Squoosh. Beautiful but super slippery, making consistency difficult for me. I think [...]
I haven’t done one of these in a long time… thought I’d start it up again. As always, please click the links to visit the Flickr pages of the photographers! Photos 1, 4, 7, and 8 are all by local photographers (Corvallis/Albany, etc.). Photo 2 is from the OSU Archives [...]
Well, the tour is over and I made some great progress. Got out of my spinning slump and taught myself to use a drop-spindle besides. Here are the results of the final week… I didn’t keep great notes on the dates, but I’ll estimate.
Days 17-19 (July 20-22)
Monday was a rest [...]
We found a new home for our rooster yesterday. He’s very vocal and it was bothering our neighbors, and we’re not supposed to have a rooster anyway. He’s gone from being the king of our big, sunny yard to being at the bottom of the rooster pecking [...]
Hellooooo! Wow, going back to work last week really put a crimp in my spinning time. The noive! Well, I guess the job helps pay for more fiber to spin, so… yay, job!
So, yeah, I didn’t finish much this week, but it was still a good week and I spun [...]
So, I’m participating in this challenge called “Tour de Fleece” — the idea is to spin every day of the Tour de France & share progress. There are awesome prizes, too, but I doubt I will win anything unless it’s in the random drawing. The TdF runs from July 4-26 [...]

I’m participating in a swap on Ravelry, where I send a package of yarny stuff off to one person, and someone else sends me something. I think there are almost 150 people participating… I’m glad I didn’t have the idea and [...]
Taking inspiration from Erica’s great photos of her fiber stash from Black Sheep Gathering last weekend, I snapped a few shots of my own haul. This was my first time visiting the annual festival and I only went for the vendors (and to see the sheep!), but there [...]

We’ve started doing a little bit to the kitchen to get it ready for the changes we want to make. Step one was tearing out the false ceiling:
Step two was tearing out these cabinets:
I love this item from the Gazette-Times crime watch section today:

ANNOYING FLIRT: 2 p.m., Valley Library. Library staff complained that a male student was flashing the laser light from a computer mouse at other patrons, annoying them, despite being asked to [...]
The previous owners of our house left behind four or five birdhouses around the property, and I’m pleased to say that they all have occupants this spring. The one above is right off our backyard deck, so we can [...]
Meet our newest family member, Miley! She’s a year and a half. We also adopted Marcus, but he’s being a little shy right now, so no photos yet.
Both will be getting new names, we think.
[...]
Cute new comic strip over at comics.com…
Click on it to see a larger version, my wordpress template is really too narrow for almost everything. Think I will change it soon.
[...]βIt’s spring fever…. You don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!β
