I didn't venture far but had a thoroughly enjoyable ride in the woods. If the jet noise wasn't present, you'd never imagine that, less than 100 yards from where this was shot, is a major airport.
I got some yard work done, took a load of dead plants to the compost heap, and made one of these:
To the guy riding his bike one legged on a windy Cannon Valley Trail today, you are my hero. He smiled both times we passed him and seemed to be having as much fun as everyone else.
Apparently, the young lady in the poster shot a terrorist at 725 yards as he was bent over burying an IED in Afghanistan. The bullet went thru his ass and into the device, causing quite an explosion.
I'm fairly certain that, if he could, he'd be thinking the same thing.
I was probably as surprised as anyone when I heard he had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. He has certainly created a sense of optimism on the world stage compared to his predecessor but so far, we've not yet seen tangible, long lasting results. Time' [...] 
For the past few nights, I have been really enjoying Ken Burns documentary on the National Parks. The history and the stories about the people who made it possible makes one proud to live here. As has been repeatedly said in the show, National Parks [...] 
As I write this, the US Senate Finance Committee has rejected a public option as part of any reform for health care here. The Insurance lobby has spent millions to make sure they continue their monopoly, and apparently, it was money well spent.

Survived the trip across Nebraska. I met up with my friend here in Idaho Springs and enjoyed sitting on his deck enjoying the view - and adult beveages.
I'm leaving tomorrow for a few weeks to ride the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. A friend and I are co-leading an intrepid group of 7 from Jacob Lake to the rim and back over 6 days. 
wearing the "Keep Your Hands Off My Health Care" and "Just Say No To Government Run Health Care" buttons, and to the nice older lady at the Republican Party's booth waving at me to sign the petition to block socialized medicine. 
Doesn't seem so bad now. This was seen on a friends deck in Colorado this morning.

We headed north towards Corvallis under clear, blue skies but into a pretty stiff head wind. The road travelled up and down through the western edge of the Willamette Valley.
I had a chance this morning to watch news coverage of some of the town hall meetings being held around the country regarding health care reform proposals. The one in Tampa in particular, turned into an almost full scale riot. Protesters on both sides seemed pretty [...] 
The missus and I are jumping on Amtrak here in lovely St. Paul for the 36 hour (hopefully) trek west to Portland. The plan is to spend a few days in Portland, riding, visiting friends and enjoying all that the city has to offer.
I'm hoping they'll make one of these. Perfect for getting around the city in winter, eh?
It was loads of fun and we had a great turnout. It was standing room only for part of the time. The nerds, myself included, hovered around the Rohloff equipped Big Dummy and our mechanic Mongo got lots of advice on how to proceed. Karl rode [...]
