  • Guantanamo Moves to Illinois?

This just in from Big Government:

Big Government has received  what is claimed to be a leaked DOJ memo that was allegedly sent yesterday from Eric Holder’s Department of Justice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The memo seems to say that Gitmo detainees will soon be living in the land of [...]

  • Two-year budget cycle?

In a meeting of area legislators and newspaper publishers, Watertown Rep. Bob Faehn, R-Watertown, suggested the state move to a two-year budget. One outcome Faehn predicted was that the state would be better prepared for future revenue fluctuations. Rep. Val Rausch R-Milbank suggested a two-year budget might avoid political gamesmanship.

    What [...]

There is a special match tomorrow -Sat. Dec 12.

For each $20 bill in the Salvation Army red kettles in Sioux Falls, an anonymous donor will donate $100. That is $20 bills, not 2 tens, not 4 fives -  only $20 bills.

I say, let’s not let this opportunity pass. [...]

  • This Land is . . . Not Our Land

From the Argus Leader this morning:

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is questioning the Internal Revenue Service’s unusual move to auction tribal land on the Crow Creek Indian Reservation, saying she is concerned about the precedent it sets.

About 7,100 acres, or 11 square miles, of tribal land was auctioned by [...]

  • E & P shutters the windows

A bit of surprise – but not shock – as we learned today about the closing down of Editor & Publisher magazine, the 125-year-old house organ for the newspaper business.

Considering the plight of newspapers all across the country, I suppose it shouldn’t [...]

  • Health Care Crisis

    Thune

There is a crisis, and it appears to be located in the U.S. Senate. My esteemed Keloland colleague and colleague Emeritus, David Newquist, has this:

John Thune has become the voice of the GOP–Groundless Obstinence and Petulance–according to the Huffington Post. He says his party will [...]

  • Did Obama sell out the U.S. to Wall Street?

One of the few bloggers who build cases that require serious attention is Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stones.  Many of the more astute of bail outs and health care reform proposals are concerned that the measures being advanced under the Obama administration are give-aways to Wall Street, bankers, and insurance [...]

  • Fingersnaps of Consciousness

Andrew Klavan has a way with words:

I’m very fond of the human race.  Too fond of them, I sometimes think.  And when you see how small we are, how brief our lives are, what gifts of creation these fingersnaps of consciousness are in God’s great scheme…  and then you see [...]
